Beth Israel Congregation continues to evolve from a welcoming place of worship to an inspiring, active community of worshippers. We share not just time together in prayer and the celebration of holidays and special events, but also in more routine ways as we get to know each other and new friendships blossom.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, our congregation rose to the challenge with the guidance of Rabbi Cohen, the addition of guest and lay leaders and the commitment of the leadership team. We have accomplished so much recently; holding virtual and live services, making the synagogue safer and more attractive via grant dollars and growing our membership and Religious School classes.
We have ambitious plans for the future and hope we can spread the workload and utilize the diversity of skillsets and expertise. Below is a partial list of opportunities for service that will benefit all members of the congregation and be self-rewarding. Please look over the choices and sign up via the Sign-up Genius or through contact with a Board member. If you have another idea to assist or a project you want to take on, please reach out to the Board.
Participate: Be part of the Minyan
Participate! Attend Friday Night Shabbat services both in person and via Zoom. As Jews, we require a minimum of 10 adults to pray together. When we have less attendees, certain important prayers are not recited. This is especially unfortunate when we have a member of our congregation who is in mourning or saying Kaddish for a deceased relative. Also, perhaps you have the skills and desire to lead a service? How about signing up for honors at Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur? An adult education group is also in the works. Details will follow. It’s good for the congregation and it’s good for your soul.
Supporting Special Events and Sisterhood
The Sisterhood is always there, helping the congregation keep our traditions alive. If you would like to help plan and assist at events such as our Purim Spiel, Community Seder, Hannukah celebration or Lag B’omer picnic, please reach out to Stacy Levinrad.
Donations
Sometimes, it’s just easier to donate. We get that and, while we need willing hands to help, funding to fuel our activities is always appreciated. If you wish to contribute let us work with you to make it as easy as possible to provide appropriate records for tax purposes.
